After harvesting, people usually separate palm fruit from bunches manually. And then use hot water to make the palm fruit soften and make it become more easier to press oil. Next, people will break the palm fruits into pulps, and then use the palm oil presser to squeeze the crude palm oil out. Till this step, it does not mean the end of palm oil processing process, washing and cooking will be used to simply purify crude palm oil which containing some impurities.

The modern palm oil processing method involves a series of steps, as the following shows:

Sterilizing: In sterilization station, palm fruit bunches are airtight sterilized in sterilizer by injecting direct steam to heat, the high temperature will make the fruit soften.

Threshing: After sterilizing, the bunches will be sent to the drum type thresher, in which each piece of fruit is separated from the rest of the bunches.

Digesting: Digesting is for crushing palm fruit, use high temperature to soften the fruit and kill the bacteria.

Pressing: It can produce the palm oil from the palm pulp by pressing. After pressing, we can obtain crude palm oil containing impurities and water, and a mixture of fiber and palm nuts.

Clarifying & Drying: A mixture of oil, water, and solids from the bunch fibers is delivered to clarification station. It usually use vibrating screen, clarification tank and plate filter to remove the impurities from the crude palm oil, and use oil drying system to dry the crude palm oil.
